We offer pneumatic compression sleeves to aid in muscle recovery. This system requires you to slide on our leg sleeve, which extends from your foot to upper thigh, and/or arm sleeve, which extends from shoulder to hand. These sleeves are broken into segments in which air fills and exits these segments in specific patterns placing alternating tension and relaxation on your muscles. Through this increasing and decreasing of pressure, the movement of tissue materials and fluid within the extremities is produced.

This system of intermittent tension and relaxation on your muscles has shown to produce many muscle and other recovery benefits. (1) The benefits of using pneumatic compression are listed below.

  • Pneumatic compression has been found to produce significant increases in flexibility. (1,2)
  • Pneumatic compression has been found to produce more effective firing of muscles after use. (3)
  • Muscular tenderness and stiffness are common symptoms of fatigue, exercise-induced muscle micro trauma and edema.
    Use of pneumatic compression was found to significantly reduce exercise-induced swelling, pain, stiffness and delayed on-set muscle soreness. (4,9) As a result, this tool was concluded to be a promising means of accelerating and enhancing recovery after the normal aggressive training that occurs in Olympic and aspiring Olympic athletes. (9)
  • The accumulation of blood lactate during high intensity anaerobic exercise has been shown to be a factor in muscle fatigue and can have a negative effect on subsequent performance. (5, 6, 7) This pneumatic compression system has shown that during the recovery phase, to be more effective than passive recovery at removing blood lactate following anaerobic exercise. (8)
  • Pneumatic compression has also been found to stimulate mitochondria production for aerobic metabolism, antioxidant activity and dilatation of blood vessels for improved nutrient rich blood flow to muscles. (10)
  • Pneumatic compression has been found to improve endothelial function. (11) The is the endothelium inner lining of blood vessels. Normal functions of endothelial cells include mediation of coagulation, platelet adhesion, immune function and control of volume and electrolyte content of the intravascular and extravascular spaces. Endothelial dysfunction can result from and/or contribute to several disease processes, such as hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, septic shock and Behcet’s disease. Endothelial dysfunction can also result from environmental factors, such as from smoking tobacco products and exposure to air pollution. (12)
